Review (abridged)
SOCIETY: WEMBLEY
OPERATIC SOCIETY
PRODUCTION: "THE MUSIC MAN"
DATE: 9/5/03
VENUE: WINSTON CHURCHILL HALL, RUISLIP
REPORT BY: HARVEY KESSELMAN
A
lively overture promised a good evening's entertainment, which the show
proved to be. Harold Hill was a likeable rogue who gave an enjoyable performance.
He was well matched
by a Marion Paroo who looked good and sang delightfully. Indeed all principals,
both major and minor, performed well and the chorus work sounded good.
The
library scene was joyous and a highlight of the show with good and clever
choreography. Young Winthrop gave a triumphant performance of "Gary, Indiana"
and it was nice to see other youngsters doing well in the chorus and minor
roles.
The sets, costumes
and makeup were all very good. It was wonderful to sit back in one's seat
and enjoy the show, which was a first class production.
